Alta Moda, is the name of photographer Mario Testino’s latest exhibition at Mate, his cultural foundation in the heart of Lima’s Barranco district. A tribute to traditional Peruvian dress, with its rich, colorful embroidery and fabrics that are often still worn in the Andes region of Peru, the exhibit draws attention to the stunning haute couture qualities of Peruvian costume.
“I wanted to pay homage to Peru and to the sumptuousness of traditional Peruvian clothing, clothing to which Peruvians remain attached today,” shared Testino in April’s edition of Vogue Paris. For his photo backdrops, Testino even turned to cult 1930s and 1940s Peruvian photographer, Martin Chambi’s family to help him bring his celebration of his native Peru to life.
