{style} Met Gala Red Carpet 2012

This year, Vogue.com, MetMuseum.org, and Amazon.com will all live stream the celebrities and designers walking into the museum from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. on May 7. Fashion journalist and longtime Vogue contributor William Norwich and model Elettra Wiedemann will man the red carpet, interviewing notable attendees like Anna Wintour, Miuccia Prada, and Carey Mulligan.

Also, a little birdie told Fashionista.com that there will be some girly outfit coordination going on at this year’s Costume Institute Gala. The Vogue-hosted event will celebrate the opening of “Schiaparelli and Prada: Impossible Conversations” exhibition at the Metropolitan Museum and the Vogue editors, will be paying a little tribute to one of the exhibition’s subjects by following a strict dress code: they all have to wear pink.

So we have put together some pink outfits for "the Voguettes" to wear that night but we are sure that at the end, Anna will have to give the final approval!

{style} JoeyBra, The Iphone Pocket Bra

The bra is the invention of two University of Washington juniors, Mariah Gentry and Kyle Bartlow. “From our own personal experience, we know that women hate taking purses to dances, bars or dance clubs. Leaving these items at home can pose a safety risk, but with JoeyBra women will never have to worry losing or damaging their valuables again,” the two say.

They came up with the idea after observing their female classmates at UW. “Purse-less and jacket-less, women migrate from party to party in an effort to find the best social scene — however, where do these ladies put their cellphones, IDs or keys when entering into a party or event space? At parties, there are no coat checks, so they resort to stuffing all of their items down the fronts of their dresses or holding items in their hands — classy right?”

Hence, the classy JoeyBra — right now being designed only in leopard print , and not yet available for purchase.  It’s a one-stop pop to get to your stuff, although reaching under your arm to answer a phone call or text message is, er, awkward, and not recommended on first dates. Nor is dancing and perspiring heavily. While water is the enemy of every cellphone, sweat is not its friend, either, and with the phone being right under the armpit, well….

Like many aspiring entrepreneurs, Gentry and Bartlow have added the JoeyBra to Kickstarter, a crowdsourcing fundraising site, to get the bra made. A pledge of $30 gets you one JoeyBra, including shipping in the U.S. (international orders: add $25).

And, they are busy working on a sports version of the JoeyBra that will let the wearer hold a “key, ID, iPod or other small items while working out of running.” Added features, including “a waterproof pocket,” will come with future versions.

What do you think? We will wait for the waterproof one!

{news} Christian Louboutin to Design for Cinderella

Christian Louboutin will celebrate Cinderella in the only way seemingly fit for a shoe designer: by creating his own interpretation of the infamous “glass slipper.” The designer will put his own “magic touch” on the shoes — to be formally revealed in the summer — in honor of Walt Disney’s rerelease of “Cinderella” on Blu-ray and DVD this fall. “I have been so lucky to have crossed paths with Cinderella, an icon who is so emblematic to the shoe world as well as the dream world,” said Louboutin.

{accessorizing} Jennifer Fisher for Barneys NY

Jennifer Fisher's new capsule collection for Barneys New York lends a heavy dose of glamour to the costume counter. The collection, which features new oversized cuffs in addition to her classic charms, is born out of Fisher's desire to offer more look for less, explaining that '[she] had a desire to create larger statement pieces without the customer having to pay a fortune." By working in brass for the line, Fisher is able to "convey the feeling of weight" so the pieces feel rich, without the price tag to match. Get it here.

{trends} S/S 2012 Sunglasses: Making the Trend Work

It's time to consider this season’s most stylish eyewear offerings for sunny days and which variety will work best for your face shape and hair colorWhile classics such as black and tortoiseshell will always be in style, one of the main ways designers updated retro shapes for this season was with a surge of color.
While
Roberto Cavalli has infused patterns from its runway collections into designs, pink is one of this season’s most dominant colors for frames, ranging from pastels at Dolce & Gabbana and Prada to hot pink at Miu Miu. Going even bolder, Stella McCartney favors red, while yellow frames were all over the catwalk at the Marni Spring/Summer 2012 show.

Meanwhile, colors in Zac Posen’s debut sunglasses line with international eyewear brand Illesteva include yellow, green and leopard print. When it comes to choosing which color to select, cool-colored frames look best with blonde hair, while dark shades complement brunettes.
Shape-wise, retro-influenced styles dominate the Spring/Summer 2012 sunglasses trends. The cat’s eye shape is refusing to go away, having made an impact at Spring/Summer 2012 ready-to-wear shows including Moschino and Rochas, where colorful 1950s-style shades were given a splash of color. Dior, Miu Miu and YSL are just some of the other labels embracing the feline shape for this season, as is Tom Ford. This style flatters most face shapes, and works particularly well on oblong-shaped faces by breaking up the lengthiness.

Another vintage favorite noting a resurgence this season is the circular frame. The perfectly spherical style has been embraced by designer labels ranging from Louis Vuitton to The Row for Spring/Summer 2012, not to mention celebrities including Beyoncé Knowles and Lady Gaga. As well as being on trend, this style is extremely flattering for ladies with a squared jaw line, as it softens angles in the face.

Ladies with round shaped faces should adopt a more angular style though, to help break up the roundness of the features. Marc by Marc Jacobs and Kurt Geiger are just two of the labels to have embraced the ever popular “geek chic” square shape for this season. Meanwhile, one style that comes back season after season -- the aviator-- flatters the top heaviness of a heart-shaped face. Different takes on this trend can be found to suit all budgets from designer brands including Armani to the iconic Ray-Ban and high street varieties from Accessorize.

{tying the knot in style} Tips for Finding the Perfect Wedding Dress

By: Andrinique of Andrinique Special Events

These tips can help you simplify the process of picking out the perfect wedding dress

After assisting brides for several years with finding their perfect dress, I’ve learned that there are four factors that go into deciding on a wedding dress. Consider each before you start your search and you’ll save time and avoid frustration.

Personal Style

Defining your personal style is the most important step in finding your dream dress and is often overlooked by brides. By establishing what your personal style is, you’ll be able to zone in on what you’re looking for.

A good way to define your style is to first consider what you feel the most comfortable wearing in different situations. What’s your favorite outfit for a night on the town or a black tie affair? What’s your favorite piece of clothing in your closet? If you think about the features that these items have, they will give you an idea of what your style is. For example, do you love wearing tops that are ruffled or lacy? If you do, chances are that you have a romantic style. Do you prefer button down shirts and a scarf? If so, that might mean that you have a classic style.

Also, being able to describe your style will help the consultant at the bridal salon. If you can tell her that you love bohemian style dresses, she’ll know exactly what to show you and not waste time with other looks.

Wedding Style

Before you start dress shopping you should know what type of wedding you’re having. While I’m a big believer in a bride wearing what she feels best in, the venue should be considered when selecting the most appropriate details. Just as a dress you’d wear to a beach wedding would be different than a gown that you’d wear to a black tie affair, you’ll need to consider what’s best for the location. For an outdoor wedding versus an indoor wedding, you’ll want to think about the length of train and veil, weight of the fabric, etc. In order to take all of these things into account, you should have the date (or at least season) and venue selected before you start to shop.

Body Type

It’s very important to find a dress that accentuates the things you like about your body and camouflages the things you don’t. The good news is that wedding dresses can be very flattering and hide a multitude of issues. Here are some general guidelines for figuring out what silhouettes might look good on your body type:

Petite: Slim A-line, natural waist Mermaid style, princess cut, sheath
Tall: Many shapes will look good and you can carry more in the way of volume and
detailing.
Hourglass: Dresses that accentuate the waist are good. Ribbons, sashes and belts are
great for you.
Pear shape: A-line and full skirts are the best for minimizing heavier bottoms. Also
accentuating a small waist is good.
No curves: Sheath dresses look great on this body type as do mermaid style gowns.
Full Bust: The key is to make sure the neckline you select is not cut too low. A beaded or
lace bodice can also help to minimize the bust. And using a sash at the waist can
draw attention away from the bust line.
Heavy Arms: Using a caplet or illusion sleeves can be a good way to minimize heavy arms but adding fabric may actually draw attention instead. Sometimes the best option is
to add nothing at all.
Stomach: The best thing to flatter the middle is to choose a dress that defines curves. For example, an a-line skirt with a ruched bodice is very flattering.

Budget

Obviously, your budget is a significant factor. The price of a wedding gown can start anywhere from $300 and go all the way up to $20,000 plus. My advice is to decide on a budget and stick to it! You don’t need to spend a fortune to get a nice gown, but the quality and detailing of dresses change as they become more expensive. Think about what features are most important to you and consider compromising on the rest, if necessary.

One last tip: It is important to know that when you try on a gown you need to identify what you like and dislike about that gown. Every gown you try on should be a progression, incorporating more and more of the qualities you like until you have found the perfect dress. When you identify a detail that you don’t like, you should eliminate dresses that incorporate that element. For example, if you decide that you don’t like the way a sweet heart neckline draws attention to your décolleté, then eliminate dresses with that neckline from those that you are trying on and consider alternatives.

Good luck and have fun!
