{nyc rounds} Pilgrim the Best Vintage Store for Fashion Obsessed, Fashion Editors, Models and Stylists in NYC!"

Pilgrim opened its doors with one goal in mind. “I want to make women feel beautiful in a modern and inviting space,” says designer and store co-founder Richard Ives. As defined a pilgrim is one who embarks upon on a quest to find something sacred. Part boutique, part art gallery, Pilgrim is an exhibition of abstract paintings, art books, designer vintage apparel and accessories and Pilgrim’s own ready to wear collection.

With an innate eye and admiration for vintage, Pilgrim offers an edited collection of designer’s work from the 50’s and 80’s to include Lanvin, Cacharel, YSL, and Ungaro. Jewelry and accessories are essential to the Pilgrim aesthetic. Pre-ban ivory bangles, sixties-inspired beaded necklaces and Bonnie Cashin designed Coach bags are found throughout the store. Vintage sunglasses offer customers a relevant look into seasons past with an assortment of designer frames from the 70’s and 80’s such as Courrèges, Oleg Cassini and Nina Ricci.

Black-washed floors provide the perfect backdrop for the eclectic mix of 20th century abstract paintings, some of which were created by co-founder Brian Bennett, and decorative pieces on display that include Korean pottery from the 4th century. A selection of soy based candles created exclusively for Pilgrim reflect the mood of the collection and are often found burning around the store.

Pilgrim is located at 70 Orchard Street in Manhattan’s Lower East Side neighborhood. You can also follow them on Facebook.

{interview} Bath time with Manolo Blahnik

With a casual flourish of his hands, Manolo Blahnik reveals disturbing news: "In the last few days I did, oh, 350 shoes."
This is a Stakhanovite shoe-output statistic to excite all aficionados of the world's finest footwear designer - and simultaneously terrify their bank managers. What's remarkable, too, is that this productivity level is, for Blahnik, practically languid. Not only is he tired - "exhausted!" - from work trips to Hong Kong (to meet retailers) and Milan (to meet suppliers), but he designs, he says, more slowly these days than he used to.
This is not because of his advancing years - "In a year's time I'll be 70. And it makes me happy that Armani is 80 because I'm not going to be retiring!" - but thanks to a consciously fastidious deceleration. "I do and re-do things that I used to do in a flash, because I want to be more perfectionist about these things. Maybe it sounds pompous and pretentious, but that's the way I feel."

{news} H&M Is Launching a New Chain

Hennes & Mauritz AB said it would launch a new chain of stores in 2013 to broaden its offering, as it reported that its margins came under pressure in the fiscal first quarter from rising purchasing costs and increased markdowns.
“We have many different projects in progress and already next year we will be launching a completely new store chain. Like COS, which today is very successful with good profitability, the new chain of stores will be independent and complement the other offerings from the group,” Persson stated.

“We have great faith in this new brand and we see considerable potential for further initiatives,” he added, without providing additional details.

“Our collections have been well received which has resulted in increased market share in a very challenging fashion retail market, and we have strengthened our position even further,” Persson said.

{retail stores} L.K.Bennett: Kate Middelton's Favorite Brand Lands in NYC

Last Friday, L.K.Bennett opened inside the Time Warner center. The British brand is known for its classic little dresses and trendy accessories, a combination that has made it a favorite with Kate and Pippa Middleton. Basically, this is where to shop if you're looking to impress the world's most imposing in-laws.

The Columbus Circle store is one of L.K. Bennett's largest, clocking in at 2100 square feet. It's not the label's first American boutique, but it is the first one in New York. The ladylike luxe decor—all powder pink and cream—suggests that this is part of the indoor shopping center's plan to bring in more upscale retail.

{news} Rollasole: Shoe Vending Machine

Rollasole recently launched our first vending machine in the United States in the entertainment capital of the world, Las Vegas Nevada. The machine are located: one at the Venetian, one at Tao and one inside the Vanity Nightclub at the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino to cure ladies of their stiletto sore feet and get them back out on the dance floor!

The company was founded by Ashley Ross, 25 and Lindsay Klimitz 26, the two girls that met in the Vegas while being desperateo find a solution to the "my feet are killing me but the street is way too dirty to go barefoot" dilemma that many stiletto-wearing club-goers are faced with. Instead of building a new emergency footwear machine from the ground up, they bought the rights to manufacture and distribute the UK-founded Rollasole flats in the US. Rollasoles are $19.95 and are dispensed in a plastic can! You can also buy them online at Rollasole.com.

{books} Chanel's Little Black Jacket

"The Chanel jacket symbolises a timelessly fashionable form of nonchalant feminine elegance: it belongs to every era". These were Karl Lagerfeld's words at the end of the photo shoot, for the book The Little Black Jacket: Chanel's classic jacket revisited by Karl Lagerfeld and Carine Roitfeld*, in Paris.

As Karl says, “It is one of the symbols that defines the style of Chanel. There are things that never go out of fashion, jeans, a white blouse, and a Chanel jacket.”

{accessorizing} Zac Posen’s Latest Collaboration

Zac designed a limited edition line of sunglasses for NY-based brand Illesteva (if you don’t know the name — learn it and love it). This isn’t Illesteva’s first collaboration — they’ve worked with Band of Outsiders, Opening Ceremony, Annabelle Dexter-Jones and more already — but this may be our favorite of theirs. See the photos in our slideshow above, and let us know what you think! The collection hits Opening Ceremony on April 3.

{interview} Six Things Karl Lagerfeld Hates

1. ‘Too fat’ Adele. Last month, he told the Metro Paris newspaper that music industry darling Adele is “a little too fat.” Madonna stood up for the Grammy winner, telling The Sun, ”That’s ridiculous, that’s just the most ridiculous thing I’ve ever heard.” Adele handled the jab with grace, telling People, “I represent the majority of women and I’m very proud of that.” Lagerfeld, to his credit, quickly apologized, telling Metro Paris, “I’d like to say to Adele, I am your biggest admirer. Sometimes when you take a sentence out of the article it changes the meaning of the thought.”

2. ‘Fat mummies.’ Adele, take heart in the fact that it’s not about you. In 2009, Lagerfeld told Focus magazine that curvy models don’t belong on runways, and the only people who like them are “fat” moms. “ ”Fat mummies sit there in front of the television with their chip packets and say skinny models are ugly,” he said. He added that high end fashion is about “dreams and illusions, and no one wants to see round women.”

3. Ugly children. But it’s not just fat people! When he talked with former French Vogue editor Carine Rotfield for Interview magazine, Lagerfeld attempted to compliment her children. “Yes, no one can say that you don’t take care of them. You’re also lucky because they are very beautiful. It would have been difficult to have an ugly daughter.” Fail.

4. Pretty much all food. According to Jezebel, in 2008, Lagerfeld told Prestige magazine that he basically hates anything edible: “I hate the smell of cooking. Some people love it, but I don’t care for it. I don’t eat sweet things. I don’t eat greasy things. And I like fish better than meat. In fact, I hate meat. My doctor calls me to eat meat twice a week, as apparently we are cannibals. There used to be a Nobu here in Paris but it was very bad; it was horrible.”

5. Animals. In 2009, Lagerfeld defended using fur in Chanel’s collections, telling the BBC that hunters are simply “killing those beasts who would kill us if they could.” (He did note that animals should be killed “nicely,” if possible.) PETA had a field day with that one, saying in a statement, “When was the last time a person’s life was threatened by a mink or rabbit?”

{trends} Spring Staples: Back to Flats

Spring arrived early this year and instead of ballets — that favorite transitional flat — women are opting to wear cool, structured loafers. Here the actress Rachael Taylor looks straight out of Warhol’s Factory with a collared chambray shirt and skinny black jeans; the queen of tomboy dressing, Alexa Chung, adds boyish charm to a floral skirt and motocross jacket; and the singer Mandy Moore takes a bold step in fluoro flats paired with black and white.

{campaigns} Mulberry Spring/Summer 2012

The Mulberry Spring/Summer 2012 collection was inspired by the retro holiday experience, nostalgic seaside scenes and eclectic British summer activities. The season's campaign was shot on Brighton Beach by celebrated photographer Tim Walker, and art director by Ronnie Cooke Newhouse from the acclaimed House and Holme.

Mulberry has commissioned a short film to show the campaign shoot on the typically traditional English beach and the final result is a surreal clash of the seaside reality and models Lindsey Wixson and Frida Gustavsson next to the ethereal digital layers showing Andy Hillman's giant ice-cream props appearing to melt!

{first look} AnnaSophia Robb as the Young Carrie Bradshaw

AnnaSophia Robb is taking her first steps in her typically sparkling silver sequinned dress and red stilettos before the pilot of Sex and The City prequel The Carrie Diaries starts in May. The picture, released by Warner Brothers this week, reveals a glamorous cityscape when in actuality the majority of the Candace Bushnell's prequel novel took place in the cosy Connecticut suburbs where Carrie was raised with an overprotective father and two younger sisters.

AnnaSophia received the seal of approval from Sarah Jessica Parker: "She sent me a letter! I wrote her one back, too," Robb told Us Weekly. "She was just very encouraging about it all. It was really cool!" She added: 'I've been watching the show and really trying to click with the character. I know everyone's going to compare it to Sex and the City, but we're never going to be that. The show is more for my generation, but it's set in the '80s, so it's fun."

{beauty} Thakoon for Nars

In one of the season’s more colorful collaborations, the designer Thakoon Panichgul of Thakoon has made a limited-edition series of lacquers for Nars based on the brights from his spring runway. “The prints in that collection were inspired by the rich color palette of India — the spices, the holy festivals,” Panichgul says. According to the designer, when the Nars team, who did the beauty look for the show, first saw the color boards, “we immediately realized that it made perfect sense to do a nail project together.” The Thakoon for Nars polishes ($18) are available for reorder. {trends} Step Into Spring with the Hottest Fashion Items

Giambattista Valli sleeveless top, £579 Preen zipper pants, £699 Stiletto high heels, £166 Nina Ricci tote bag, £1,129 Chanel jewelry, £790 Chanel beaded necklace, £1,495 Noemi Klein butterfly stud earrings, £102

Spring has sprung, and the sun will (hopefully) soon be peeking through the windows. Time to get out, it's a good excuse to rejuvenate the wardrobe.  A natural optimism can be found in the latest fashion trends for Spring/Summer 2012.  A kaleidoscope of tropical colours, psychedelic patterns and downright sexy midriff tops, went straight from the catwalk and into the High Street and online boutiques. There has never been a better time to invest in beautiful designer clothes.

Hot trends include a very feminine silhouette with cinched waistlines on dresses and tops, and ruffle detailing that accentuates the hips; a subtle nod to 80s-style tailoring.  For pool-side glamour, think of a 1950s ruched bandeau that shows off a tanned and trimmed midriff.  Team this with a bold flower-print skirt or even tailored cropped pants to create the 'wow-factor'.

Sugar-sweet pastels are all the rage for Spring/Summer 2012.  With egg-shell delicate fabrics and 60s inspired A-line dresses in a range of sorbet colours that look delicious and refreshing.

Following along with this trend is a fondness for yellow in every Pantone shade imaginable from lemon to custard.  Yellow shades have penetrated classic suits, maxi dresses and cigarette pants and accessories.

The magpies amongst us will be glad to see that shiny, sparkling dresses and pants are hot this season.  Iridescent and shiny plastic and polymer dresses teamed with floaty and delicate flesh-toned overlays. The resulting contrast in textures is exhilarating and edgy.

Girly lace and broderie anglais dresses in demure high cuts are very right now.  These come in pastel colours designed for modern dolls like candy pink, lilac and canary yellow.

The new Baz Luhrmann film The Great Gatsby is coming out soon. Catwalk fashion has taken inspiration from the 1920s with shiny, flapper dresses with black and white art deco detailing. Overall Spring/Summer fashion looks to be fun, frivolous and full of bold statement items.
