{news} Dior Launches Online Magazine

The Dior online magazine goes live with eight articles — that number representing one of the founder’s good-luck charms — with Friday’s fall fashion show the first headline event: It will be live-streamed for the first time. Dior hopes to update its online title almost daily with news from 30 Avenue Montaigne and the company’s global activities.

The magazine — at Diormag.com or via Dior.com — is designed to tell the backstory of the brand and its products. Some editorial content is designed to entertain; some to inform, such as where raw materials for Dior perfumes are harvested. There’s also house lore galore: The site’s introductory letter notes that Christian Dior was so superstitious, he would sew sprigs of lily of the valley into dress linings for luck on the day of his show.

In addition to articles, the site is designed to showcase high-res images and longer-format videos that can be shared. It debuts in French and English, with simplified Chinese coming shortly. Versions for the iPad and iPhones are expected in the coming months, Dior said.

{live from the runway} Roberto Cavalli Fall/Winter 2012

From the bubble gum opening to the finale that fizzled — Naomi Campbell, the caboose on a train with no steam — Roberto Cavalli’s fall collection had the mystifying feeling of a REM-cycle dream. Don’t pinch yourself — it was real.

A degree of youth and able-bodied maintenance has always been implicit in Cavalli’s animal-printed va-va-voom. Usually it’s executed with a significant level of designer sophistication that indicates the clothes are in fact for grown-ups, who will need a sense of humor to appreciate the score of short, baby-doll bubble dresses, done in bright pink and green sequins with harness backs that opened the show. From there, the animalia — prints, furs and exotic skins — and sparkle stayed, while hemlines fell and proportions ballooned into boxy tops, long ball skirts and drop-waist tunics worn over flared pants.

{arm candy} Richard Nicoll’s Cell Phone Charging Handbag

Richard Nicoll  unveiled a handbag that can charge Blackberries, iPhones and androids during London Fashion Week. The bag was designed in collaboration with phone company Vodafone and will go on sale this Spring.

“We wanted to create a collaborative product that fused fashion and technology,” Nicoll told TIME after his runway presentation on Sunday. “The recharging bag is especially relevant for my collection this season, because it’s about the notion of work and all its facets in modern times.”

{live from the runway} Salvatore Ferragamo Fall/Winter 2012

Czarist Russia. The gilded life of the elite few guided Salvatore Ferragamo creative director Massimiliano Giornetti for fall, with strong results. In the elegant lineup, the designer took the theme on from two perspectives: the strictness of military silhouettes and the soft romance associated with Eastern Europe of those prerevolution years. Often, Giornetti combined the two, such as in an appealing structured gray military coat teamed with an ultrafeminine paisley dress.

{awards night} Uggie, the Jack Russell that Stole the Oscars' Night Attention

“The Artist” the film that was nominated at the 84th Academy Awards winning Oscars for Best Picture, Best Director and Best Actor, also had the best doggie: Uggie, a 10-year-old Jack Russell terrier that suffer from a neurological disorder but was the star of the night.

Uggie received a little special treat from Chopard, a bow tie of 18kt yellow gold and satin, to wear to the Academy Awards and the gold bone it is inscribed with his name. {awards night} Oscars 2012 Red Carpet Yays & Nays

Our favorite is Emma Stone, looking amazing on a red Giambattista Valli dress, BIG YAY.
Cameron Diaz stepped out in a curve-hugging Gucci ensemble and the simple bustier of the dress was complimented with a full feathered train. YAY.
Rooney Mara on a white Givenchy dress, walked the red carpet and as always, she was shinning! YAY.
Jessica Chastain wore a stunning black and gold Alexander McQueen gown that make her look elegant and beautiful!! YAY!

Sandra Bullock looked stunning as she hit the red carpet wearing a black and white Marchesa gown, she defenitly looks better single!! :) YAY!!!
Gwyneth Paltrow wore a white Tom Ford dress under a long cape that kept her warm but made her look spring transitional.
Jennifer Lopez wearing a neutral Zuhair Murad dress with a modest v-neckline {at least for JLo}, looked simple but sophisticated but we would love the dress to be a litle bit less sheer.
Penelope Cruz chose a custom Giorgio Armani organza evening gown with off-the-shoulder straps and a fitted bodice.
Our Nays this year go more for looking boring than anything else.

Tina Fey, she looks uncomfortable on this Carolina Herrera dress.
Glenn Close, no need for a jacket for the red carpet, her strapless midnight green Zac Posen was the best part of her outfit and she hid it and we didn't like the huge train.
Natalie Portman, wearing a red polka-dot dress from Dior, boring, along with Angelina Jolie who wore Versace, who didn't even make it here as she looked...yawn!!!!

{live from the runway} Missoni Fall/Winter 2012

It was out there, no question. “This girl is a metropolitan heroine who has a fantasy of fusing herself with nature,” said Angela Missoni of her collection during a preview. “She’s rebirthing from the earth but sometimes she gets stuck.” The odds of that statement translating on the runway seemed slim, until Missoni proved it with a fantastic lineup that illustrated her dreamy vision with improbably wearable clothes.

{live from the runway} Dolce and Gabbana Fall/Winter 2012

“Romantic Baroque.” That was the ruse for Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana’s collection, a motif rich with material from the island they adore, Sicily. The designers established the tone with an elaborate installation — their runway under the glow of 16 massive two-tier chandeliers, wrapped in flowers and festooned. The girls emerged from a huge gilded picture frame, also done up with flowers.

Moody and fanciful, the set sent the message that here would be no minimalist musings. But then, who would expect that from Dolce and Gabbana? Which has become a problem. Not that the designers don’t do minimal, but that they have ceased to unsettle our expectations. “We’re always asked to be ourselves,” Dolce said before the show. “The challenge is to remain true to Dolce & Gabbana while renewing ourselves, so we work on materials and research.”

{the blogger's box} Springing Forward

I don't know about all of you, but I've been ready for spring since about, mmm, December. I love cold weather, I love snow, I love bundling up - but I saw so many amazing trends and looks during September's fashion week that I could hardly wait to wear. At least in New York, it seems like winter barely even arrived this year. Today for example, it's about 60 degrees in Manhattan! Everywhere people are in their shirtsleeves and sunglasses, it feels and awful lot like spring is already here.
From the looks of this week's Links a La Mode submissions, I'm not the only one with spring fashion fever. There were so many posts about trends and looks we'll all be embracing - or are already! From printed pants to neon bags, ladylike dresses and the upcoming Marni for H&M collection - and of course some inspiring DIY projects - everything's coming up floral! Check out this week's inspiring and fashionable posts, and as always, thank you for the wonderful submissions!

{magazine cover} How Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Model Kathy Ireland Became a $350 Million Mogul

With a net worth of $350 million dollars, Kathy Ireland makes an additional $2 billion dollars off her retail empire. Ireland, 48, started in modeling at age 17, setting herself on the fast path to become one of the '80s most popular supermodels. Starting in 1984, she graced the pages of the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue for a whopping 13 consecutive years.

This swimsuit model doesn’t sell swimsuits, and while many women may still associate her name with a clothing line at Kmart, she barely sells clothes anymore, either. The bulk of her success comes instead from the kind of stuff that has likely never seen a celebrity’s name adorning it: ceiling fans, flooring, mattresses. And above all there’s furniture: desks, end tables, media centers, beds, ottomans and bookcases. There are area rugs, carpets and headboards. And lots and lots of windows. One of the biggest pieces of the Kathy Ireland empire is her namesake vinyl and plastic replacement windows, which purportedly insulate heat inexpensively; a retail outfit called Window World moves $400 million of them a year. {live from the runway} Versace Fall/Winter 2012

In the Versace show, the clothes were all gothic drama and underground kink, as Donatella Versace turned on the dark for fall. Not even her high glamour gloss of crystals and articulated curves (both here in spades) could file down the edge.

The show opened with two black velvet dresses — one covered up, one bare — both embroidered with leather Byzantine crosses, a recurring motif. Versace played it big — blaring and bejeweled smack in the middle of a corset — and small, crafting a breastplate out of laser cut black on a fitted and flared moto jacket that was sleekly executed. But things got silly where the crosses were used as colorful prints, which segued to letters that spelled V-E-R-S-A-C-E all over dresses. Such gothic glitz relates to the house vernacular for sure, but shown so blatantly it bore the look of a secondary collection, not because it looked cheap, but too flagrant. Giant letter-block prints don’t play well on designer turf.

{live from the runway} Just Cavalli Fall/Winter 2012

Take an ocelot print runway, shake it with some wild animal and tropical patterns, and stir it with a rock ’n’ roll vibe and just the right dose of Sixties mod, and you get a taste of Just Cavalli for fall.

The lineup had all the ingredients Roberto Cavalli is known for, but the collection was rendered in a younger, and possibly more playfully sexy version — starting with the group of black and white looks, including a flirty, draped and tied zebra print dress and a graphic, exaggerated houndstooth structured top with leggings. The bold, sensory-overload motifs made the Lurex, patent and metallic stamped leather numbers that followed seem almost calm by comparison. The sentiment also extended to Cavalli’s men’s wear, which featured several wearable ensembles, including a peacoat teamed with slim-fitting pants. They showed a more restrained side of the designer, which was appealing.
