A set of ten stamps celebrating the best of UK couture from the Queen’s favorite designer Hardy Amies to the queen of cutting edge Vivienne Westwood are showcased. Each first class stamp bears an iconic design from each of the fashion houses.

Westwood harks back to 1993 with her signature harlequin dress, Amies has a chic, fitted skirt suit with leather gloves and Ossie Clark a vibrant, floaty hippy number and a black feather number from Alexander McQueen. Shot by top fashion photographer Solve Sundsbo, some outfits like Tommy Nutter’s three piece suit for Beatles drummer Ringo Starr were recreated just for the stamp.

Royal Mail spokesman Philip Parker said: “Britain is famous around the world for the creative vision of its fashion designers, from the glamour and sophistication of Norman Hartnell, the punk influence of Vivienne Westwood, through to the world-class designs of Alexander McQueen. “So it is an honour to be able to pay homage to some of the designers who made the industry what it is today.”
