Get to know the designer who may be the new Christian Louboutin…The Milan-based designer Max Kibardin is hot news with the grand premiere on Saks Fifth Avenue, in New York City, bringing all its classic-meets-modern shoes and bags.

“I want my shoes to be classic—but with a sophisticated twist. I want to shock, but in a chic way,” says designer Max Kibardin, attempting to resolve the conundrum that bedevils so many young designers: How do you do something unique without veering off into silly territory? How do you stay true to the traditional roots that inspire you, but still remain fresh and interesting? As Kibardin puts it: “You have to be classic, but you have to have some news.”

The 33 year old designer, who now lives in Milan, has been in business since 2004. Born in Russia, Milanese by adoption, architectural studies in Moscow and fashion studies at Istituto Marangoni of Milan.Max Kibardin describes the spirit of his footwear range-launched in 2005-as “timeless luxury”.
