Sarah Burton looked to the Victorian era for the Alexander McQueen pre-fall collection, with spectacular results. The period inspired waist-cinched riding jackets, dramatic capelike coats, bell-shaped bustier dresses in flocked velvet and frothy gowns in black tulle, their bodices featuring dense embroideries. Burton also injected a gypsy vibe, seen in off-the-shoulder blouses and exploded floral prints on black fabrics. A rich palette of wine shades was exemplified by a dramatic fur coat melding astrakhan and fox fur. Also noteworthy is the new Heroine bag, a roomy style with side zips and a clever closure.
